The Border

Yesterday we left on the buss at 10 and the scenery was spectacular, there were big hills and trees and more mountains and i took some photos. My camera battery ran out because i kept turning it on and off all the time. Then the sickness kicked in and i felt horrible. Listened to my mp3 while i attempted to sleep. Then we reached the Ecuador border and i found my passport and went inside. We kept going on the bus until the peru border ... and then walked a little then hoped on another bus to Tumbes. The guides were all quite on edge and telling us all these things about safety, like bags on front, stay together, stay in one line , lock the doors. But everything was fine, we got money out from the atms and then headed to the hotel. We went through Tumbes (the town where the spanish landed in 1528, and Pizzaro took two natives to teach them spanish so they could be his translators.)We arrived at the hotel around 4.30pm, its really nice. right on the beach, and theres a few hammocks around and crazy playground things made from driftwood.theres crab wholes along the beach ,and lastnight they were all running around like crazy.. and we saw a jellyfish washed up , and theres boats off the shore. and big dumping waves. theres an oil rig off the coast that lights up heaps at night, and lastnight we had a beach fire and i talked to Patricia, one of the girls on the tour about diving...she does a lot of it. The beds in all the hotels are super firm, unsleepable is another way to put it. I had a double bed and so i gathered up all the pillows in the room and layered them through the bed and slept on them, it helped heaps! i slept reasonably well. Thismorning i slept in!!! wow that never happens because we usually have places to go and things to see, but today i woke at 9am and got up and had breakfast with Nicky and Katrina, claire eventually joined after sleeping like a log. The breakfast consisted of just bread and jam...a bit dull but we are used to it these days. Nothing can beat a Brazil breakfast! today is a free day until 2.30. we have another 7hour bus to catch to some place starting with C.
