Beautiful Quito

Last day in panama, i woke at 5.30 am because of the noise from the street. Went on the interenet until pancake time!!! And boy, were the pancakes good or were the pancakes good. I had three. with bananas and maple syrup. We then got a taxi to the airport. The taxi driver was the most amazing taxi driver so far, and we´ve had a few good drivers , but this guy! My god. He is in a Latin American soft rock band so he showed us one of his songs on cd. He sung along and played air keyboard on the dash! it was quite a show. and then he taught us a little spanish.. Vaca means cow. V for Cow.
Waited in line at the airport for a few hours, the usual. And then once on the flight we were served a lunch of burger, potato chips and a tiny little snickers bar. Very American. The host guy gave nicky his email, that was cute. Then we landed in Quito midafternoon. 10000ft above sea level. The altitude may have had some affect on us as we laughed and giggled our way through customs.
A hostel is pretty amazing. Its practically a hotel, we have a room for us four and it has a tv and clean sheets each day!! High class.
We went out for an incredible vegetarian dinner at Cafe Fonfone. I had potato soup and sandwich and it was the best cheap meal ive had the entire trip!

Today , Sat 7-3 , we got up and went to find a post shop. Theyre very difficult to fiond but we did. They didnt sell envelopes so i still havnt posted anything. Darn. At least now i know where it is. We then got a taxi to the markets, which turned out being about two blocks away. But we didnt know which directionso we needed a taxi. I bought a colourful inca necklace with green string. and a teddy bear made from alpaca wool ...so nice.
We went to lunch to the cafe place again, its cheap and amazing food so how could we not.
Taxi to old town cost us $1.25. We climbed up a cathedral, the stairs went up and up then there was ladders and then a clock , and then more ladders and then the top!! at the top there were little ledges that you can climb out on. We did. It was high and would have been illegal in New Zealand. I love South America...its like they want you to explore everywhere!!

Taxi home, dinner of ketchup sandwiches. We watched tv for a bit...malcom in the middle. Luckily Nicky has seent he episode so she explained what was happening. I enjoyed it.

The end of saturday. Quito is great fun.
